In The Community

Part Of The Community

We love our local community and regularly take part in community festivals and events. The Community Partnerships Committee can put willing hands to good work.

St. Helen’s also supports organizations that seek to make our community a more caring and equitable place – a place that meets God’s desires for all of God’s people. This support is expressed through prayer, donations of money and goods, engaging in learning and volunteer opportunities, and spreading the word about the important work of these organizations.

St. Helen's Community Box

St. Helen’s Community Box is located near the bus stop on Prestone and Kennedy. The box is filled with books, non-perishable food items, paper products, school supplies, and other essentials.

Anyone is welcome to take and donate items at anytime.

Community Partners

Belong Ottawa, a community ministry of the Diocese of Ottawa, operates three drop-in centres in the City of Ottawa, providing safe spaces that connect people and create community and programs that address basic needs and foster dignity, wellness and hope for all. In addition to financial contributions, St. Helen’s collects items such as toiletries, socks, and mugs (as requested by Belong). Bins to receive these items can be found in the entrance to St. Helen’s Church.

Muffins Made with Love is St. Helen’s offering of homemade muffins for the participants of Belong Ottawa. Drop muffins off in the church freezer anytime the church is open for regular delivery.

Every month, the Orleans-Cumberland Community Resource Centre lets our Community Partnerships Committee know what items are of particular use to the Food Bank. This information is shared via our e-newsletter and on the bulletin board in the church entrance (right above the collection bins!).

St. Helen’s partners with the OCCRC on the Green Thumbs community garden project, which provides fresh produce to the Food Bank throughout the growing season. The gardens are on the south side of the church.

The Norman Johnston Alternate Secondary School provides holistic support to students, including material aid for students in need.

St. Helen’s Church is located in Queenswood Heights and we take great joy in participating in special events such as the Winter Festival and the Summer Music Festival.

Alongside Hope is the Anglican Church of Canada’s agency for sustainable development, relief, refugees and global justice.
