Mapping the Ground We Stand On

An interactive workshop about
the people, place, history, and future of Turtle Island/Canada

As one of our actions in Truth and Reconciliation, St. Helen’s is hosting two sessions of PWRDF’s Mapping Exercise, facilitated by Audrey Lawrence and Karen Luyendyk. We are also honoured to welcome Inuk elder, Asenath Kannutaq, who will serve as a witness to the day and will light a quilliq. Asenath is a parishioner at St. Margaret’s Vanier.

There is no fee for this workshop but donations to PWRDF will be gratefully accepted.
The morning session is full but there are still a few spots in the afternoon session.

In 2015, as part of its commitment to support the findings of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, PWRDF developed the “education for reconciliation” resource Mapping the Ground We Stand On. This interactive workshop, also known as the Mapping Exercise, invites participants to explore Indigenous presence on the map of Turtle Island/Canada, the history of Settler arrival, and their relationship to one another. It also offers an opportunity for learning and reflection on the concepts of Terra Nullius (empty land), the Doctrine of Discovery and Indigenous knowledge.
