In this fifth week of our pilgrimage, one of our stops is Lindisfarne, an island also called Holy Island, where we find both a castle and a priory. In this place, monks and other people living the religious life reflected upon the nature of the Divine for centuries.
As you walk this week, think about how you have seen God revealed in your life. Consider how the Divine has made itself known to you, in big things or in small, whether that’s in the smell of a rose or in a life-changing event.
Offer prayers of thanks and wonder. Ask how you might be able to see the Divine’s presence in new ways.
This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it!
God of all, you are present with us in many ways: May we grow to see you in the big and the small, that our hearts might be filled with wonder at your creation as we walk along the pathways of this life. Amen.
Psalm 8
O Lord our governor,
how exalted is your name in all the world!
Out of the mouths of infants and children
your majesty is praised above the heavens.
You have set up a stronghold against your adversaries,
to quell the enemy and the avenger.
When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars you have set in their courses,
what are mortals that you should be mindful of them,
their children that you should seek them out?
You have made them but little lower than the angels;
you adorn them with glory and honour;
you give them mastery over the works of your hands;
you put all things under their feet;
all sheep and oxen,
even the wild beasts of the field,
the birds of the air, the fish of the sea,
and all that walks in the paths of the sea.
O Lord our governor,
how exalted is your name in all the world!
silence
Creator of the fruitful earth,
give us grateful hearts for all your goodness,
and the ability to perceive you in all your fullness,
and may we always give thanks for the riches of your creation.
offers your thanksgivings and intercessions.
I pray in the name of Jesus, with the words he gave us:
Our Father in heaven, hallowed by your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours,
now and forever. Amen.
