“Seeds of Grace” Stormy Weather

Wednesday, March 13, 2019

Canadians talk about the weather all the time!  It is both a non-offensive topic of conversation and a matter of some import when stormy weather threatens. The world certainly reflects uncertainty and brokenness.  Our institutions are fraught with difficulties, including government, education, health care and the church. And it is likely that someone you know, or in fact you, yourself, are experiencing a challenging, sad, or turbulent time in your life and so, perhaps, in your spiritual journey.  Unfortunately a seven day forecast doesn’t solve either global or personal issues.

The psalmist wrote the following verses in Psalm 143: “Lord, hear my prayer, and in your faithfulness heed my supplications…my spirit faints within me; my heart within me is desolate…let me hear of your loving-kindness in the morning, for I put my trust in you; show me the road I must walk, for I lift my soul to you…let your good Spirit lead me on level ground.”  In these words the singer expresses both despair and hope, at the same time.

Does that resonate for you or perhaps for someone you love?  The ‘good news’ is that, even in your darkest hours, you are not alone.  “And remember, I am with you always…” He said. (Matthew 28:20)

Aside: Apple Essence (The ‘ice wine’ of apple juice!)

Pour 2 cups of apple juice into a small pot and simmer on low until it reduces by at least ½(Stay in the kitchen!) The resulting syrup is excellent as a drizzle over pork tenderloin or chops(add a small baked apple as a ‘vegetable’) or use to add depth to an apple dessert, ice cream or pancakes.
