Week 4 – Prayers and Reflection

Download these prayers as a pdf here.

We are making our way to the northern edges of our journey and visiting remote islands off the Scottish coast. We will visit sites famed for miracles and for faithfulness and for community. Perhaps these three things are not so different from one another.

As you walk this week, focus on the miracles. Dare to name the working of God in the world and in your life. Train your eye to see through the obvious to the mystery beyond for all the world is truly a thin place.

Ask God for clarity of vision and boldness of heart. Ask God for the miracles your desire and then ask God to help you recognize the miracles you actually receive.

This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it!

God of faithful surprises, throughout the ages you have made known your love and power in unexpected ways and places: May we daily perceive the joy and wonder of your abiding presence and offer our lives to you in gratitude.  Amen.

Psalm 145:1-10

I will exalt you, O God my sovereign, and bless your name for ever and ever.
Every day will I bless you and praise your name for ever and ever.
Great are you, O Lord, and greatly to be praised;
there is no end to your greatness.
One generation shall praise your works to another and shall declare your power.
I will ponder the glorious splendour of your majesty and all your marvellous works.
They shall speak of the might of your wondrous acts, and I will tell of your greatness.
They shall publish the remembrance of your great goodness;
they shall sing of your righteous deeds.
O Lord, you are gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and of great kindness.
You are loving to everyone and your compassion is over all your works.
All your works praise you, O Lord, and your faithful servants bless you.

Creating God, you looked at everything you made and called it good.
Give me eyes to see the world as you see it – with delight and love and compassion.

offers your thanksgivings and intercessions.

I pray in the name of Jesus, with the words he gave us:

Our Father in heaven, hallowed by your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours,
now and forever. Amen.
